Flux residue rarely causes a failure on the first board. It fails later, out in the field, on the warranty line.
The SME-6300 inline PCBA cleaning machine removes rosin, water-soluble and no-clean flux residues, plus organic and inorganic contaminants, with a water-based wash, DI water rinse and hot-air dry — all in one continuous pass, without the board ever leaving the production line.

Why residue is a field problem, not a line problem
Every residue-related failure and every board that leaves the line for cleaning costs money:
- Residue fails in the field. Incomplete flux removal causes leakage, corrosion and reliability failures after the board has already shipped.
- Batch cleaning breaks the flow. Off-line cleaning means boards leave the line, queue up, and come back — killing throughput.
- High-end products demand cleanliness. Automotive, medical and industrial electronics require ionic cleanliness that hand washing or simple washing cannot reliably deliver.
- Manual washing is inconsistent. Results vary by operator, and residue stays behind in hard-to-reach areas.
- Water and chemistry waste. Uncontrolled washing consumes DI water and detergent without predictable results.
The Ionic Cleanliness Test
Decide whether you need inline cleaning before you quote a line — it costs nothing to run:
- Where does the board go? Automotive, medical or industrial control boards carry field-reliability risk and usually require documented ionic cleanliness.
- What flux do you run? Rosin, water-soluble and no-clean fluxes each need different wash chemistry and rinse resistivity.
- Can the board leave the line? If cleaning means a detour and a waiting queue, you lose throughput you cannot recover.
- What resistivity must you hit? A target like 0–18 MΩ DI rinse tells you whether batch washing is even viable.
If cleanliness is a specification, not a nice-to-have, inline is the answer.
The Vehicle: three inline units, one pass
Boards travel left to right through three units:
- Water-based wash — removes rosin, water-soluble and no-clean flux residues plus organic and inorganic contaminants. Liquid temperature ranges from room temperature to 80 °C.
- DI water rinse — clears ionic residue with DI water at 0–18 MΩ resistivity, supplied at 6–15 L/min.
- Hot-air dry — dries the board completely at up to 100 °C before it exits.

The system uses a 1 µm liquid filter for consistent quality, with clean, pre-rinse and rinse tanks of 280 L, 60 L and 40 L. Boards from 50 × 50 mm to 500 × 400 mm, up to 100 mm thick with components, run at 0.1–1.5 m/min with a 900 ± 25 mm net height aligned to adjacent equipment. All values are from the SME-6300 brochure and remain subject to final technical confirmation against your boards, flux types and line layout.
Where it earns its place
- Automotive electronics — ECUs, sensors and power modules where ionic residue is a field-reliability risk.
- Medical devices — assemblies that must meet documented cleanliness expectations.
- Industrial control — boards exposed to humidity, vibration and long service life.
- High-volume consumer and ODM — where batch cleaning queues would otherwise cap throughput.

Re-run the test as products change
Flux chemistry and board density shift with every new program. Re-run the Ionic Cleanliness Test when a new product family enters the line: the flux type and cleanliness target that suited last quarter may demand a different rinse resistivity or tank setup now. Reviewing it at each new product introduction keeps field failures out, not in the warranty queue.
