SMT Stencil Wiper Roll: Dust-Free 55/45 Spunlace
A 4-step standardization turns stencil wiper rolls from a fragmented, jam-prone consumable into one matched specification across every printer brand.

SMT Stencil Wiper Roll: Dust-Free 55/45 Spunlace
Under-stencil cleaning is where solder paste print quality is won or lost. The roll inside your automatic cleaner either lifts paste and flux residue out of the apertures — or leaves it there for the next board to print through. A mismatched core slips, a cellulose-heavy sheet tears under vacuum, and a lint-shedding wipe blocks the very opening it was meant to clear. The failure shows up as solder balls and opens three boards later.

Why the wrong wiper roll quietly costs defects
Poor wiper paper taxes every board you print, and the cause hides inside the cleaning unit where nobody is looking.
- Plugged apertures. Residual paste in small apertures cuts transfer efficiency; at a 0.50 area ratio a poorly cleaned aperture can sharply reduce the deposit, causing opens on 0402s and fine-pitch CSPs.
- Underside smearing. Paste smeared on the stencil bottom transfers to incoming boards and becomes solder balls and bridging between fine-pitch leads.
- Lint left behind. Cheap wipes shed fibers into apertures on the dry stroke; the next board prints through a partially blocked opening.
- Wrong core, jammed roll. Each printer brand uses a different take-up shaft — cross notch, one-word notch, 12-rib groove or paper tube — and a mismatched core slips or jams, stopping the printer mid-cycle.
The Single-Roll Standardization
A named method to collapse wiper-paper chaos into one qualified consumable. It works without any specific supplier and applies to any printer brand on your floor.
1. Printer inventory. List every screen printer by brand and model, plus the current roll's six parameters (core length, core ID, notch type, roll OD, material width, material length) and winding direction. Inventory is what stops you from buying a different wipe per brand and multiplying SKUs, suppliers and qualification work.
2. Core and notch match. Match each printer to the correct core ID, length, width, notch type and tube material so the roll seats and winds correctly. A matched core is what ends slips, jams and mid-cycle paper tears that halt the printer and waste the cleaning cycle.
3. Sample trial. Run sample rolls through a wet-vacuum-dry trial on your line before bulk commitment, confirming no lint and clean apertures. The trial is what moves the decision from a spec sheet to proof on your own boards before cartons arrive.
4. SKU collapse. Standardize on one 55/45 roll across DEK, MPM, GKG, EKRA, JUKI, Fuji, Yamaha, Panasonic and others, labeled per printer position. Collapse is what turns a drawer of incompatible rolls into one reorderable consumable your stores team can actually manage.
The 55/45 spunlace roll as the vehicle
Southern Machinery's SMT stencil cleaning wiper paper rolls are dust-free, lint-free sheets cut to the exact core, notch and width your printer needs.
- Material: 55% native wood pulp + 45% polyester, spunlace double layer — cellulose for fast absorption, polyester for wet and dry strength.
- Basis weight / thickness: 56 gsm / 0.3 mm; water absorption rate ≤0.5 sec.
- Surface: dust-free, lint-free, no irritation; clear even paper grain.
- Strength: soft, durable, strong tensile wet and dry; adapts to high vacuum pressure without swelling or tearing.
- Reference roll: core ID 20 mm, core length 410 mm, core wall 1.5 mm, core OD 23 mm, finished roll OD 50 mm, paper width 300 mm, paper length 10 m (±1 mm hand-measured).
- Core options: PVC cross notch (+), PVC one-word notch (−), PVC 12-rib groove, smooth PVC without notch, paper tube.
- Packaging: individually wrapped rolls, 20 per carton; supports wet, vacuum and dry strokes with IPA or water-soluble agents.

Reference specifications cover DEK, MPM, GKG, EKRA, JUKI, Fuji, Yamaha, Panasonic/Matsushita, KME, Hitachi, Sony, Minami and Desen cleaning units. If your printer is not listed, a custom roll is made from the six measured parameters plus notch and winding direction. Source material gives example transfer-efficiency figures for evaluation — about 49% at a 0.50 area ratio when apertures are not cleaned properly, versus about 98% when a clean aperture at a 0.88 area ratio is achieved — subject to your own process and final technical confirmation.

As a planning benchmark, clean apertures protect transfer efficiency in the fine-pitch range where opens, solder balls and bridging are most costly — quantify it against your own first-pass yield before purchase rather than treating vendor figures as a promise. Standard specifications ship from stock; custom specifications are confirmed within 24 hours with a sample-first process and about a one-month customization window.
The consumable review loop
Keep the roll qualified with a quarterly consumable review loop. Each quarter, pull one roll per printer position, confirm the core still seats without slip, check the notch type against the current machine, and re-run a wet-vacuum-dry sample if the printer model changed. That loop is what stops a silent core change from reintroducing jams after a maintenance swap. Southern Machinery supports the loop with worldwide reorder support, one-day spare-part lead-time culture and labeled, per-position packaging that makes the SKU collapse hold over time.

FAQ
What is the paper made of, and why 55/45?
The sheet is 55% native wood pulp for absorbency and 45% polyester for strength, bonded as a spunlace double layer at 56 gsm / 0.3 mm. Cellulose grabs flux and solvent fast (≤0.5 s absorption); polyester keeps the sheet from swelling, weakening or linting during wet and vacuum strokes.
Which screen printers does it fit?
Reference specs cover DEK, MPM, GKG, EKRA, JUKI, Fuji, Yamaha, Panasonic/Matsushita, KME, Hitachi, Sony, Minami and Desen units. If your printer is not listed, send the six parameters and a custom roll is made.
How do I choose the right size and core?
Tell us the printer model, or measure your current roll: core inner diameter, core length, paper width and paper length, then the notch type (cross, one-word, 12-rib, smooth PVC or paper tube) and winding direction.
Does it work with IPA and water-based agents?
Yes. The roll supports wet, vacuum and dry cleaning strokes with standard production agents including IPA and water-soluble chemistry, engineered to wet out without changing its mechanical properties.
Is it really lint-free?
The spunlace structure traps solder particles without releasing fibers, and wear testing over sharp aperture edges shows no lint deposited on the stencil — which is what keeps apertures clear for fine-pitch printing.
